Schalk and I have never followed tradition. We both have strong opinions and believe in keeping things uncomplicated and in avoiding finickiness. We strove to keep our day as comfortable, casual and fun-filled as possible. Our wedding was set in the beautiful garden of In the Vine, overlooking the Helderberg Mountains. Guests were encouraged to toss aside their high heels and participate in the lawn games and putt-putt. Roosterkoeke were served fresh from the braai. The Rivertones (reggae band) jammed in the background and soon had people twisting and jamming along with them.
Schalk and I opted for a floating food menu and for no seating plan. Finger foods, bowl food and desserts were served throughout the evening. The food came to where the guests were, whether it be outside on the lawn, a lounge area, cocktail table or regular table. This encouraged constant movement, conversation and engagement among our friends and family.
We kept our decor simple with greenery, fynbos and fairy lights. I'm a serious Tomboy, so frills and fuss were out of the question! The night flew by, but goodness did we have fun! Schalk and I made sure to set aside a few moments that we could be together, to just sit beneath the full moon and look at one another. It's these times that are the highlight of the night for me.
The morning after our wedding I was whisked away on a plane and arrived for a surprise honeymoon in Mozambique. Surf, copious amounts of seafood and snorkelling. And that was only the beginning our our adventure together!
