Su-Do Tanning - The Airbrush way of life

SU-DO - The Art of Looking Good - AIRBRUSH TANNING
There was a time when acquiring a suntan was a painful once a year activity, conducted in the heat of the midday sun on the annual pilgrimage to the Costa del Sol. For those with pale or sensitive skin the lobster look was never much welcomed and for others with better tanning skins there was, and still is, the persistent need to oil up with copious quantities of sunscreen to prevent the damage from the harmful rays of the sun. For many the risks to health coupled with the premature aging of the skin have acted as a serious deterrent and sun worshipping no longer has quite the appeal it once had.
Fast-tanning sun beds have provided a practical alternative for some and their use is increasingly evident in thousands of small salons all over the country. Skin damage still remains a concern however and there are many who remain instinctively shy of using them. Tanning lotions, foams and creams provide the final alternative, and such products are now sold in vast quantities for self-application at home or through professional application in a salon. These proprietary products are considered to be effective and harmless and many people now turn to them to acquire colour, not only for summer but throughout the year as well. Indeed the availability of sun beds and tanning lotions has changed attitudes towards tanning and men and women now regard suntan as a style extension, which can be worn constantly throughout the year. It makes them look better and feel better and can easily be acquired without huge expense. Partial tanning of legs, arms, back, shoulders and chest is also very popular as part of an overall “look” for a special night or occasion.
Creams and lotions, however, do have inherent disadvantages, especially when applied at home, since it is extremely difficult to obtain a really even seamless tan using the hands, and patchy orange tanning is often the result. Backs of course are impossible to do oneself. Beauty therapists can do a better job in the salon, but for many the “hands on” experience is not always relished, nor the result always perfect.
A solution to these difficulties comes in the form of the SU-DO Tropical Airbrush Tanning System.
The SU-DO System – What is it, how it works
SU-DO Tropical Tanning Lotion is applied to the skin by a therapist using an airbrush. Airbrushing guarantees a perfect spray and produces a faultless and seamless result every time. The airbrush is held at a distance of four to five inches from the skin and in that sense the process is entirely hands free. Clients stand for 5-20 minutes to receive an all-over spray, depending on which system the salon has (less for partial tans) and wait a further five to ten minutes for the skin to dry. Colour gradually fades over 7 to 10 days. Top-up applications can be received at any time.
The only active ingredient in any sunless tanning product is DHA (dihydroxy acetone). This causes a chemical reaction with the amino acids in the top layer of the skin. DHA is derived from sugar cane and causes what is known as the Millard reaction, i.e. the browning that occurs when an apple has been sliced and allowed to stand. DHA is colourless and starts working after two hours. Within 10-12 hours the reaction is complete. Most clients prefer to leave the salon with at least some evidence of a tan so a bronzing agent is added to the lotion to provide “instant gratification”. This bronzing agent is non-staining, and washes out of clothes and off the skin as well.
Is the process safe?
DHA has been used for over 30 years without any harmful effects being reported. A tiny minority of people can be allergic, but if this should occur it would only cause a few red bumps on the body like a rash, which soon disappear.
