Real Weddings - Pieter and Lize

I came across Pieter and Lize’s Engagement Shoot via Twitter and immediately loved it! The colours, the ‘FUN’ element in the Photographs and the one thing that REALLY Pulled me in; the way in which the couple ‘acted’ around each other – they were so at ease, so happy and so in love!

Photography: Nicola Bester

It was an absolute pleasure to browse through their images and I am certain you will enjoy them as much as I did! It’s sure to put a smile on your face!!

Thank you for sharing your Story Pieter and Lize – it was great meeting such a loving Couple!

Enjoy!

Boy meets Girl - how did it happen; where did it all begin?

We met 7 years ago through mutual friends of ours, at University. I must say I was quite impressed when I saw Pieter for the first time; I thought to myself, “My friends have really done well in the matchmaking department!”

Pieter asked me to his formal dance a week later and the rest (as they say) is history…

Boy asks girl to marry him - How was that like, how did it all plan out?

(PIETER)After seven years, of which two and a half was at University and the remaining years in the United Kingdom, we were very keen to get married and settle down in South Africa.

We always knew we would get married one day but wanted to take the big step once we returned back home. During February 2010 I bought a ring during a brief visit to SA, with the plan to get engaged within a few months in the UK. Lize and I started planning a 2-week holiday to Cape Town in September 2010 and I knew that the holiday will serve up the best opportunity to ask for her hand in marriage.

For seven months I hid the ring from her, waiting in anticipation for our holiday…Finally the holiday commenced and one of the first things I had to do was to ask her parents’ permission to marry their daughter. I was quite surprised by how easy it was, especially considering how nervous I felt!

The only thing I had to do now was find the right time and place to get engaged. As I woke up on the morning of 17 September, the sun was out for the first time that week and I knew this was the big day! Lize and I drove along the coast of False Bay and stopped at one of the viewing points where I asked her to marry me. A whale even appeared close by to join in the occasion and to welcome us back in sunny SA!!

How did you decide on an engagement shoot? Or was it an extra when you booked the Photographer?

(LIZE) Someone suggested that we do an engagement shoot as preparation for the wedding day. Like many others, we are not very comfortable in front of the camera and the shoot certainly helped in that department.

Nicola is a very good friend of mine and I absolutely looooove her work so we actually ‘tricked’ Pieter into doing the shoot. She made us feel so comfortable. We chatted, shared jokes and even sang to each other, whilst Nicola was clicking away. When I saw the photos for the first time I was super happy! I love the look and feel of the photos and how she was able to capture our personalities in the shots.

The Outfits: Is there a specific theme you were going for?

No, not at all! We wanted a very natural shoot, so threw on what we would usually wear on a day out. We had a laugh afterwards, because it actually looks like we planned it… (SAWeddings.co.za: “It sure does.”)

The setting/location - Who decided that? Does it represent both your personalities?

Nicola chose the location for us and it absolutely represented both our personalities – Greyton holds a very special place in our hearts as we celebrated our second anniversary there and the scenery is just beautiful! We had so much fun…it certainly helped to have a very humoristic fiancé and photographer.

The wedding: What do you guys have planned? Décor, venue etc.

I (Lize) loved Italy before we even set foot there! Earlier this year we went on the long-awaited (5 years!!!) holiday and fell madly in love with the country! The people, the food, the wine, the history, the scenery - absolutely everything!

While having dinner - on the last day before we departed - at a restaurant overlooking the Ponte Vecchio in Florence we decided that our wedding must have an Italian flair!!

We used photographs - from our holiday - on the Wedding Invitation; we will be serving proper Italian food and drinks at the wedding and even made our own Limoncello.

The idea is to take our guests ‘back to Italy’ with us and have them share in the wonderful experience we had. (SAWeddings.co.za: “What a fantastic Idea – We Love it!!”)
