Meeting the Gentle Giants from Knysna Elephant Park

This past December holidays, I had the privilege of visiting the Knysna Elephant Park and what an experience it was to have been there.

It has always been a childhood dream of mine to meet these gentle giants and when I got the opportunity to do so, I was in the seventh heaven!
At arrival we were greeted by Estelle, Marketing Manager of the Knysna Elephant Park – and escorted to the rooms; which was absolutely beautiful. The exciting thing is – you can actually ‘sleep with the elephants’. In the evenings the elephants are taken to their beds downstairs from where the guests’ living room is – from where you can see how they ‘snack’ on a few branches and pleasantly fall asleep while enjoying a beverage of your choice. It’s a beautiful experience and I highly recommend it.

Afterwards we had the (very thrilling) opportunity of interacting with the elephants – we fed them (they eat for 18 hours of their day!) fruit and vegetables after which we had the opportunity to touch them as well as take photographs – I was more excited than the 7 year old in front of me!
The Knysna Elephant Park is not only a place to visit when passing through Knysna but a beautiful serene wedding venue which will guarantee a few extra guests by the likes of Harry and Sally and perhaps a few of the younger elephants.

The accommodation in itself is stunning, the surroundings breathtaking, and the elephant interactions thrilling; yet beautiful – without a doubt a must see when a nature lover...or not! I had an absolute blast and cannot wait to visit again!
