Anything too weird or wacky may leave guests wondering if this is to be the tone of your wedding.
Cost of wedding stationery
Unless you have an open-ended budget you may have to pull your horns in somewhere along the line and so it pays to look around and get the most cost effective options available. You could of course make your own cards or pay a talented friend to make them for you. You never know, a friend may offer to make them as a wedding present for you! If you know someone who can do calligraphy, then it's a great idea to ask them to write inside the invitations and address the envelopes for you, as well written calligraphy always looks very chic.
You can also make considerable savings by going direct to the card printer, thereby cutting out the middleman. Online stores offer a wide variety of styles and templates and you can easily customise your own design and ask them to print not only invitations but menu and place cards too.

Choosing a design
Many couples choose wedding invitations that reflect part of their personalities and also incorporate some of the wedding theme. If for example, you're planning a summer wedding with a daisy theme, then you could have daisies somewhere on your design. Perhaps you are having a colour co-ordinated wedding of fuchsia pink and cream. In this instance you could incorporate those colours somewhere into the card.
Don’t' be afraid to break away from tradition
Traditionally wedding stationery is white or pale cream but you don't have to stick to this. Why not break away from tradition and choose a different colour which ties in with the theme of your wedding. If you're having a beach style wedding perhaps you could send a postcard type invitation possibly of a beach with an invitation written on the sand.
Size matters
Finally don't forget size. Your invitations need to be large enough to contain relevant information but not so large that it will cost a small fortune to put them in the post.
