Classic Revival

Recent Royal Wedding fever will continue to push wedding cake trends in the traditional and classic direction. This past season many brides opted for the fondant look which of course is a classic look. However, this was done with a modern and individual twist which makes it much more fun and interesting.

Recent Royal Wedding fever will continue to push wedding cake trends in the traditional and classic direction.  This past season many brides opted for the fondant look which of course is a classic look. However, this was done with a modern and individual twist which makes it much more fun and interesting.

Fondant, traditionally white is now colored to any shade imaginable. Creams and grays are most popular and the softer vintage shades of blue and pink create a stunning backdrop to the final decoration.

Traditional roses are still a favorite and handmade in sugar they look perfect with this look. Simple and elegant floral as well as lacy designs make an understated statement.

Even though the cake may have a classic exterior, the interior can be just about any flavor you like.  A firm dense cake is best.  Rich decadent Chocolate Mud is very popular as is Vanilla Chocolate, Red Velvet and Carrot. Each tier can be a different flavor and experimenting with different height tiers gives the cake a modern twist.

If you are going for a classic style cake it is very important to choose a skilled and experienced cake designer and maker. Detailed sugar work is an art and a tricky skill to master to perfection.
