Tips on buying and wearing wedding shoes

By Anella Wedding Shoes

  • Comfort, comfort and comfort.   Just think - you'll be walking down the aisle, posing for photographs, greeting wedding guests, cutting the cake, taking off your garter and possibly dancing in your bridal shoes. This could add up to hours and hours on your feet, so be sure, above all else, that you choose shoes that are comfortable on your feet.

  • Your wedding shoes should complement your wedding dress.

  • Buy your wedding shoes in the afternoon. Feet tend to swell as the day wears on.

  • Team simple wedding shoes with an elaborate wedding dress… or vice versa. This is a good rule of thumb if you’re not sure where to start.

  • Anella offers black dye so your shoes can be dyed after the wedding, thus offering you more value for money and enjoying your wedding shoes long after the big day!

  • Start looking early! You need your shoes for your dress fittings. Your hem can’t be done without the correct shoes. Otherwise the length of your gown will be different.

  • Think about where your ceremony will be held. You may want an open toe shoe for an outdoor wedding or a more closed option for a winter wedding.

  • Consider the colour of your gown when deciding on your shoes – White or Ivory. Or a bit daring – Anella can be professionally dyed in any color!

  • Remember the height of your fiancé, you won't want to tower over him if you buy a too high a heel.

  • Wear your shoes around the house a few times before the wedding (try dancing in them) you will want them to be comfortable on the wedding day.

  • You may at times only see the front of your wedding shoe, but you will lift the hem to walk. People will see your shoes, so detail is interesting and eye-catching.

  • Consider the price of the shoes. You may think you will re colour them after the wedding, but you may change your mind. They were brought to be your wedding shoes.

A quirky way of ‘designing’ and ‘decorating’ a wedding shoe

Nowadays it has become a lot more acceptable to have fun with your wedding attire. We have moved away from older traditions and have become more quirky with our choices.

This couldn't be more true than with wedding shoes and so it should be! Gone are the days where your wedding shoes HAD to be white, and had to be the same fabric as your dress (thank goodness!).

Fun ways to add personality to your wedding attire is to wear a colour shoe that is echoed as an accent colour throughout the wedding decor. Popular choices at the moment are deep purple, red and royal blue. A great way to add another bit of personality and quirkiness is to have your shoes customised with Swarovski crystals, satin bows, or be really bold and have them hand-painted!

It's YOUR day, so do what makes YOU happy and have fun with your choices!

What’s Hot?

As always, shoe trends are changing - all the time. For Spring/Summer 2011 we have spotted the following trends.

  • Vintage and Old-Style Hollywood is still the talk of the town!

  • Brides are also becoming more adventurous and ordering red, hot pink, green and blue shoes.

  • The focus is definitely on shoe decorations for that “Wow-factor”.

Old Classic Hollywood & Vintage:

Bold but classic. This style incorporates a lot of diamante, pearls and classic 1920’s to 1940’s style shoes. These shoes are hard to find so the focus is definitely on embellishing modern shoes in order to achieve the look.

Shoe Decorations:

Or as we like to call it, “Shoe Dressing”. The possibilities are endless! This is exactly why LilyBlue has a shoe-dressing service. How does it work? A Bride can bring a pair of shoes to us (or choose from our range) and we will dress them to match your dress/theme. The recipe is as follows: Take one pair of basic shoes, add a touch of lace, a Vintage rose perhaps, and sprinkle some bling…Voila! Cinderella can go to the ball!

Colour is key:

Whether you want the perfect “Mushroom” colour shoe or the perfect “hottest Pink” - your shoe colour is definitely the biggest obstacle when searching for shoes. LilyBlue has a chart of 120 colours and a range of dye-able satin bridal shoes that will solve any colour issue.

The final Word:

Comfort, Colour and Style! Choose a shoe that suits your dress and personality and you can’t go wrong.

Summer 2011/12 Green-Cross – Feel The Comfort:

Green Cross, a South African business was founded 36 years ago and has become synonymous with quality and comfortable footwear. Their success is inherent in the design of fashionable and stylish shoes without compromising quality and comfort. This can be observed in its new summer styles, with a range of sexy, strappy sandals and trendy men’s and children shoes designed to ensure comfortable good looking feet.

Below we have gathered some Bridal Shoe ideas from Green-Cross – what do you think?
