Children at your Wedding – what to do

You’ve set the date, the venue has been confirmed and your wedding gown is getting its final touches – you are ready to walk down the aisle and marry the love of your life! Chances are – your niece and/or nephew will be walking; or perhaps running down that glorious aisle just before you make your appearance - throwing petals and smiling happily. What a beautiful picture!

Like any 3-year-old, they will soon become either over active or really tired and grumpy – most likely at the reception. What do you do to ensure all the accompanying children are happy and entertained throughout this time while the parents share in this joyous occasion?

  1. Set a ‘Children Only’ table – in one corner of the reception venue, be sure to set a table for just the children.

  2. Get a babysitter – This is very important; employ a designated person to look after the children – especially during dinner. This person should sit with the children at ‘their table’.

  3. Goodie Bags – make up fun and entertaining goodie bags for each child; remember have one for the boys and girls respectively. I would suggest Bubbles, a colouring book, perhaps Sudoku for the older ones. Also include something sweet – just run this past the parents beforehand.

  4. Sleeping Arrangements – When the younger children gets tired, have a room ready where they can go and rest – away from the music and celebrations. Ensure the Babysitter knows about this (as well as the parents) and who to ask if he/she requires a key.

I hope this has assisted you in keeping your younger guests happy and entertained – the last thing you want to worry about on your wedding day is someone else’s children.
