Capturing memories

Remembering the one day you would never want to forget - your wedding day. The unthinkable truth; memories fade. You want them to be captured, frozen in time so that you can cherish them in your heart forever. Sadly, reality doesn’t always allow this and slowly but surely memories drift away never to return. Or is there a way to capture these precious memories?
Mercifully, the answer is yes. There are many ways in which you can capture your favourite wedding moments; right from your engagement through to the ceremony, or even to the more unconventional ‘Trash the Dress’ ritual. Modern technology offers an easy way to hold onto those special memories through digital filming and photography. But, for those who’d prefer to take a step away from the conventional favourite, there are also older, more traditional methods capturing every moment of your unique wedding.
With the staggering amount of services available to a modern bride, it’s easy to be overwhelmed and you could find yourself not knowing where to begin! Thankfully, you’ll have SA Weddings – the no.1 Bridal Directory – at your fingertips. On our site you’ll all these fantastic services and more! No matter what your need, we offer the most exquisite options to all brides out there, including how to capture each and every one of your wedding memories.
We are always up to something here at SA Weddings and this time around we have asked one of our ‘Bride of the Year 2009’ contestants, Delmarie Lingenfelder, to tell us how Albert and herself captured their memories – one year later. She might even give you some ideas on how you can do it too – I know I got some great ones! If you have any further thoughts or comments on this topic, please feel free to let us know. We love hearing from our brides, after all that’s what we are here for to help you!

Capturing the memories of 19 September 2009 - our wedding day.
The best way to relive your wedding day is by watching your wedding DVD. It’ll plunge you right back into that memorable day and have you wishing back time within moments! That’s why I always advise all of my matrimonial friends to invest in a good quality DVD. It is the easiest way to you keep your memories of that day alive long after the actual occasion has gone. Occasionally, Albert and I take some time from our busy days and watch the DVD - from start to finish. We discuss and reminisce, and ultimately relive that day, together.
Another way through which we are pleasantly taken back to our special day, and the beautiful décor, is by taking a walk through our new home in Villiersdorp. We incorporated as much of the wedding décor as possible into the interior of the house; the tablecloths now hang in our living room as curtains, and now we have a reminders of 19 September 2009, every time we take a peek!
Something which really set our wedding aside was our use of vintage birdcages with live birds inside as part of the décor. To this day, almost a full year later, they are still living with us. When I put them outside in the mornings, their chirping reminds me of the day Albert and I became one.
Our wedding photographs are printed in a storybook album – photographed and designed by Gilliam Olewage. This is a unique and special way in which I present my wedding day to friends visiting my home.
Our guests wrote the most beautiful messages in our guest book and to this day I still use it in my home as a decorative element. The book was an old album which dated back from the 1820’s – it’s really special to me as I love everything vintage.
One of the memories that will never fade is the way my dress looked and how I looked in it. I am one of those sentimental brides who held onto my wedding dress.
I think the one holiday every wedding couple remembers for a long time afterwards, is the relaxed honeymoon after the crazy days leading up to the wedding. Albert and I went to the Maldives and Dubai, and on such occasions I insist on capturing the memory on film as it takes place. I am always the one nagging to take photos, of myself, each other and basically everything else around me - to make sure I will never forget it.
To this day I am still able to relive and re-experience the one day that I never wanted to forget.

Capturing memories in jewellery:
As little girls we all scratched in Mom or Gran’s jewellery box. Real diamonds, Costume jewellery and heirlooms passed on from mother to daughter. There is a fabulous sentimentality connected to those items. Each one has a story; a wedding day, the birth of a baby or a special event that needed the perfect piece.
At LilyBlue we specialise in incorporating any costume and vintage piece into a wearable piece for your wedding day. What could be more special than wearing your Gran’s favourite diamante brooch made up in a bracelet?
Combining these fabulous vintage pieces into wearable “modern” jewellery can complete your look for the day. From Bling and Bold to Elegant and Classic – your jewellery should reflect your own style, and can capture your special memories at the same time. As a bride you get to wear your wedding gown once, but your jewellery will be timeless and can be worn again and again.
If you prefer modern pieces, do yourself a favour and take part in the design process to create the perfect piece. Your involvement will ensure that the piece matches your style perfectly and it will be so much more special. One day your own little girl might scratch in your jewellery box and ask “mommy, when did you wear this?”

“Capturing Memories”
Don’t you sometimes wish you could freeze a moment in time, bottle it up and bring it out whenever you wanted? Unfortunately that is not possible, well for now at least, but there are other ways to “capture your memories” and then relive those special moments over and over again.
The photo booth is a very fun and interactive gizmo which is fast becoming the new must have at weddings. Give your friends and family the free range to step behind the curtain and let the camera snap away, jump in and join them and at the end of the night they have their own copy to take home and you have the whole lot to reminisce and bring back to life your magical day and night. You can even customize each photo with the date and venue of your wedding and why not add a little message from the bride and groom.
There are many ways to “capture memories”; we have lots of fun and creative ideas, so let us start off by capturing your dreams so that the only thing left for you to worry about is making your precious memories.
For more information on the photo booth go to www.partyphoto.co.za or contact Red Hot Events to get the planning started.

The elements of time have a way of eroding and distorting memories.
But great visual images beautifully printed onto canvas, framed and prominently hung are a constant reminder of the passion and commitment of wedding moments.

Capturing your memories through Qphoto Albums: more information
“Photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth which can make them come back.” Henri Cartier Bresson.
This is why it is so important to capture those memories, not only on disc, but also to print them. What worth does a photo have when it is not printed? The choices that you face when you are printing can be confusing. The best printing that you can do, is a chemical process that will not fade after a year or so. Always be sure to ask which process the printer will use.
You also have a lot of album choices these days which replaces the old fashioned stick-in albums. No mess, no fuss. Be sure to know which of these book-albums are in the market, as there are those that will fade after some time. There are chemically processed albums on the market that will last you a lifetime. Always ask what kind of a guarantee your printer/ photographer offers.
These are your memories, take some time to do research and find the best option for you.
