Were
you always interested in the DJ and Music industry, or did this
only happen at an older age?
As with the case of most DJs and entertainers, it’s a passion
more than a career path. It started when I was at school and is
something I wouldn’t change for the world.
How
did Sound Affinity come about?
I worked for a selection of sound companies in Port Elizabeth.
SoundAffinity really started in 2000, when I moved from PE to
Cape Town. After being in Fish Hoek for a few months, I met my
business partner Beau Compton who had recently moved from Johannesburg.
From having a few speakers in the corner of my garage, we are
now in a warehouse that is getting a bit small for us…
What differentiates SoundAffinity from any other DJ Company?
Over the 10 years, we have seen many DJ companies come and go.
The majority of them are one man shows and it’s more of
a hobby for them. Because we operate as a team, we are able to
offer world class service. We also host events, so we have a selection
of equipment such as lighting, stages, big sound systems and generators.
What happens once you book a DJ?
We insist on a brief meeting ahead of the wedding to discuss all
the requirements for the wedding. When we arrive at the venue,
we do a full setup and sound-check before any of the guests arrive.
We also have a policy “party until the sun comes up”,
that means no cut-off times unless the venue or function has specific
requirements. |

Do
you have any funny stories from your years in the industry? Something
that perhaps happened at a wedding which you can share?
There are a few that come to mind… driving through the Karoo
looking for a farm that does not exist… The best one was
from when I was still in Port Elizabeth, I was DJ’ing at
a Greek wedding. The bride’s father went to the bar and
ordered several bottles of expensive whisky. He then poured it
on the dance floor and proceeded to light it. Dancing in the flames
was on his agenda that night. He ended up buying the hotel a new
dance floor!
I
know you guys have been with SA Weddings for a while now –

you in achieving the success you are experiencing today?

a doubt one of the most successful. We look forward to a long
working relationship with you guys.
