Planning your wedding day is something so special and exquisite; you want it to be perfect. There are various things to consider when planning your wedding, but the two most important are definitely your sound and lighting - these two elements create an atmosphere like no other.

From walking into your reception as a first time married couple till leaving it at the end of that night. The lights can create that romantic ambiance in the reception area and best of all, you can play around with so many elements - colours, shapes and different sizes. I hope this newsletter will make your decision less nerve-wrecking by giving you various options with regards to these two elements. Don’t forget about our Phenomenal Bridal Beauty and Styling Workshop taking place on 28 August at Kleine Marie @ L’Avenir.
The man of your dreams has finally popped the question and you are over the moon with the thought of spending the rest of your life with him. But how can you create the perfect mood at your wedding day? The one day that is the beginning of the rest of your lives together.

There are many elements involved on your wedding day, but there are two very important elements that need to be well thought through and implemented. These are: Music and lighting. Music and lights are some of the less expensive elements in planning your wedding, but can either make or break a reception or ceremony. Lights can be anything from fairy lights, parcans, chandeliers, colour enhancing lights, sky lanterns and more. Not knowing which one to choose in order to create that perfect mood and atmosphere at YOUR wedding ceremony and reception is the real problem. The same goes for music – do you get a DJ, live entertainment, a jazz player or natural acoustic sounds? . Read more
I was fortunate enough to meet with the very knowledgeable and passionate Richard Kleinsmith – founder and co-owner of Sound Affinity - to ask him a few questions regarding his profession. We sure got a few laughs in as well.

Were you always interested in the DJ and Music industry, or did this only happen at an older age?
As with the case of most DJs and entertainers, it’s a passion more than a career path. It started when I was at school and is something I wouldn’t change for the world.

How did Sound Affinity come about?
I worked for a selection of sound companies in Port Elizabeth. SoundAffinity really started in 2000, when I moved from PE to Cape Town. After being in Fish Hoek for a few months, I met my business partner Beau Compton who had recently moved from Johannesburg. From having a few speakers in the corner of my garage, we are now in a warehouse that is getting a bit small for us…

What differentiates SoundAffinity from any other DJ Company?
Over the 10 years, we have seen many DJ companies come and go. The majority of them are one man shows and it’s more of a hobby for them. Because we operate as a team, we are able to offer world class service. We also host events, so we have a selection of equipment such as lighting, stages, big sound systems and generators.

What happens once you book a DJ?
We insist on a brief meeting ahead of the wedding to discuss all the requirements for the wedding. When we arrive at the venue, we do a full setup and sound-check before any of the guests arrive. We also have a policy “party until the sun comes up”, that means no cut-off times unless the venue or function has specific requirements.

Do you have any funny stories from your years in the industry? Something that perhaps happened at a wedding which you can share?
There are a few that come to mind… driving through the Karoo looking for a farm that does not exist… The best one was from when I was still in Port Elizabeth, I was DJ’ing at a Greek wedding. The bride’s father went to the bar and ordered several bottles of expensive whisky. He then poured it on the dance floor and proceeded to light it. Dancing in the flames was on his agenda that night. He ended up buying the hotel a new dance floor!

I know you guys have been with SA Weddings for a while now – 3 years if I’m not mistaken. How has SA Weddings helped you in achieving the success you are experiencing today?
SA Weddings has come a long way in the last three years, including a name change. We have tried a number of advertising campaigns over the years with several similar companies, this has been without a doubt one of the most successful. We look forward to a long working relationship with you guys.

You are assisting SA Weddings with the Phenomenal Bridal Beauty and Styling Workshop – How has the experience been thus far and are you looking forward to being surrounded by 200 of the most beautiful Brides-to-be? Giggle…
200 of the most beautiful brides… this could be dangerous… We are looking forward to the event – it is going to be phenomenal!

Any last words?
Great food, cold drinks and good entertainment are the three most important things when arranging a wedding – never compromise on any of them!

I’m sure every soon to be bride will have these items ticked on their ‘to do’ list! For more information on SoundAffinity click here.

HELP! What skin type am I? Oily?
This skin type often looks shiny, and people with oily skin tend to have larger and more visible pores. The good thing about oily skin is that because your oil-producing sebaceous glands are so active, you have extra moisture in your skin so you won’t age as fast. Your skin might be prone however to blackheads and spots.

For more on different skin types, read the follow-up tip in the next newsletter.
